Raising the Floor works with partners across research, industry, civil society, and the public sector to prevent barriers and promote inclusion. We support open and collaborative approaches to designing, developing, and sharing resources and products that advance digital equity and improve people’s quality of life.
Currently working on:

  • RtF-US: Inclusive Digital Infrastructure & Tools
    • Morphic is free, open-source cross-platform personalization infrastructure enabling users to instantly adapt devices to their needs across public and workforce environments. Watch the Morphic video.
    • AT-on-Demand (AToD) is a free, open-source service integrated with Morphic that provides users with the assistive technologies they need on any PC or Mac, regardless of what is installed.
    • Learn and Try tool is a guided tool helping individuals discover and activate accessibility features that work best for them.
  • RtF-EU: Research & Scalable Inclusion Innovation
    • ITHACA is a collaborative project advancing inclusive digital civic participation through cross-country research and implementation.
    • iGAME is a collaborative project developing inclusive digital and hybrid gaming experiences for the cultural and creative sectors. It ensures accessibility and meaningful inclusion of diverse and underrepresented audiences in its tools and pilots.
  • RtF-I: Immersive & Future-Focused Inclusion
    • Unique Centered Design (U*CD) is a design and development method to design with the whole person in mind—their identity, context, abilities, and how these change over time—to make digital products truly inclusive and effective. (U*CD Guide)
    • DinaCITY is about creating accessible immersive urban learning environments using XR to support cognitive and educational inclusion.
    • XR-Sense is a research and design initiative focused on making immersive technologies cognitively and sensorily accessible.

Previous projects:

  • We Count – a community-driven project to address the inherent bias against small minorities and outliers in artificial intelligence and data analytics.
  • Coding to Learn and Create – designing educational coding tools for kids who have been left out of learning—especially those with complex needs.
  • Global AT Data Collaboration – participation in a new collaborative effort to promote AT databases for every country.
  • Inclusive Learning – developing new IT-based tools and methodologies to address students’ diversity in vocational education centres.
  • SmartWork – supporting active and healthy ageing at work for older office workers, through a suite of smart services, building a Worker-Centric AI System for work ability sustainability. (Horizon 2020).
  • UI Options – adapting the user interface to meet diverse and variable personal needs ( led by IDRC).
  • DeveloperSpace – A common space for those wanting to learn about or develop new solutions (a GPII project).
  • Unified Listing – A comprehensive compilation of ICT accessibility tools from around the world (a GPII project)

This work is the result of a collective effort of over 50 organizations from 13 different countries and the multidisciplinary expertise of top research centers, universities, companies, data protection agencies and public and non-profit organisations.
