Browser access to platform text to speech
Today, there are a number of assistive technologies or special access programs that run in a browser and have voice output. Because content running in a browser (for example using JavaScript) cannot access the native text speech engines in a computer, the programs need to send the text to a server to have it converted into speech which is then sent back to the browser. This is slow and requires that a high quality text to speech engine be provided on the server somewhere, as a service. This project will work with browser manufactures and the W3C to create a standard and a capability for content in a web browser to be able to send text to the native text to speech engines on the computer. This would provide users with high quality and fast text to speech. It will provide developers with a new option and a lower cost method for creating fast applications which involve changing text into speech.
