Audio Contrast Tool
The objective of this project is to create and distribute a tool that allows web developers to easily determine the difference in volume between foreground speech and background noises. By using this tool, web developers can compare their website's audio quality against accessibility guidelines to determine how well the audio can be understood by people who are hard of hearing.
Future implementations will aid the developer in reducing background noise.
Status
Under funding from the Trace Center as part of it Center Grant from NIDRR, a beta version of an Audio Contrast Tool has been developed. The tool was developed by David MacDonald, Gregg Vanderheiden and Audacity Programmers. The tool will be part of a future release of the standard open-source Audacity sound tool. An additional "audio contrast" analysis was added to the Audacity Open Source tool and now gives web developers an easy method to determine the difference in volume between foreground speech and background noises.
As soon as the tool is available for download, a link will appear here on this page and in the "Solutions & Tools" area of this web site.
